Established in 1827, Talbot County has a rich heritage, and it is the historical home to some of Georgia’s most influential citizens. It is located 2 hours south of Atlanta, 30 miles northeast of Columbus, Ga., 30 miles south of Callaway Gardens, 60 miles west of Macon, Ga. and 20 miles south of Warm Springs, Ga., the site of F.D.R.’s Little White House and the Roosevelt Institute.

The towns comprising Talbot County include, Geneva, Junction City, Talbotton and Woodland, with Talbotton being the county seat. The Romanesque style courthouse on the historic town square in Talbotton, was built in 1892. It was the scene of an historic Ryder Murder trial in 1896.

If it’s hunting or fishing that you are looking for, Talbot County is a sportsman’s paradise. Deer and wild turkeys are abundant. The Big Lazar Wildlife Management Area and The Fall Line Wildlife Management Area offer great fishing and hunting.

Did you know that Talbot County was where Lazarus Straus came in 1853 and opened his first store, which would years later become Macy’s? It was also the site of the first session of the Georgia Supreme Court on January 26, 1846
